M156

Mercedes AMG M156 V8

The M156 is AMG’s naturally-aspirated 6.2L V8 — a beloved engine for its character, sound, and tuning flexibility.
If you drive a C63, E63, or similar model with M156, this page is where you’ll find compatible performance parts and upgrades.

The Mercedes AMG 6.3 Liter Naturally Aspirated engine is designed by AMG with Mercedes versus a Mercedes design that is modified by AMG.  These can gain incredible power with a supercharger if 540 hp from a stage 1 tune is not enough.

Specs & History

  • Displacement: 6.2L (6208 cc) naturally aspirated V8
  • Power Output: Stock AMG variants range ~451–518 hp, depending on model and tune
  • Usage: Found in AMG C63, E63, ML63, CLK63, SL63, etc.
  • Character: High-revving, rich exhaust note, direct throttle response.
  • Limitations: Without forced induction, gains come via airflow, camshaft, intake, and header tuning.

Performance & Upgrade Paths

  • Free-flow intake and high-flow air filter systems
  • Exhaust headers, downpipes, cat-back systems
  • Air intake and throttle body upgrades
  • Cooling enhancements (oil cooling, additional radiators)
  • Software calibrations (ECU/TCU) to optimize timing and fueling

Why Upgrade the M156?

  • More Flow = More Power: Since there’s no forced induction, free-flow mods deliver gains internally.
  • Sound & Feel: Enhancing intake/exhaust improves the visceral experience.
  • Reliable Gains: The M156’s architecture and parts support moderate tuning without massively altering internals.
